And the Award goes to...

This weekend was alright. My weekend started Thursday night with a little APO bowling! Always a good time bowling with my bro's. I actually did ok , an 87 and 96 which included a few spares and 2 strikes. Friday night I had my long awaited and always excellent date-night with Kaitlyn! We headed to the Lehigh Valley Mall and did a quick shopping adventure for her big date night. Staying in the shopping mood we went to see Confessions of a Shopaholic. It was a basic cheezy romantic comedy, so of course I liked it. After the movie I came home and was going to do work but somehow I ended up cleaning the entire kitchen and bathroom. I missed Team Clean!
Saturday I received my acceptence letter to Villanova! Yay 2 acceptances so far!!!

Saturday night I went to the CFC benefit dinner to see Sarah perform in MIA there. It was a pretty funny show. They do a good job improving. Following that I came back and watched Persepolis, which is the animated movie about Iran in French. I enjoyed it but was somewhat confused not knowing much about the history. I wiki-ed it, just to learn a little more. After which I decided I was going to bake brownies for our Oscar Night party. I missed baking and will need to get more intricate recipes and perhaps use the baking soda/powder that we really thought we needed in the kitchen when we moved in. The housemates then came home and we made chocolate covered strawberries and bananas.
Sunday was our Oscar party. We originally were gonna get dressed up but we scrapped that plan. Our menu consisted of baked brie with dried fruits and honey, tomato and mozzeralla, guacamole, and chips for appetizers. Then the brownies, chocolate covered strawberries and banana's and some cookies. We also had some red wine since we didnt have a red carpet. About 7 people came over to watch which made it more entertaining. We had more comments on the outfits and ceremony. The show itself was actually pretty funny with some good musical numbers by host Hugh Jackman. Overall a good weekend.

Over and out,
Lauren

Happy V-day

While it has been a week since my last post nothing really exciting has happened to report. I am spending this weekend up at Worcester with Eric, which is nice. I got the rest of my present from him which was quite cute. Martini glasses, vodka, Pom juice and hot coco with marshmellows. I think he just bought me the gift so he could enjoy it. But thats quite alright with me.
I'm also spending this weekend doing a lot of reading for Psych of Women which is also fine by me. I am really enjoying this class and I recommend taking it, especially with Dr. Richmond aka Kate. She really has a way of getting the class to think and discuss the material. It is also a class where you are forced to think about difficult topics that relate directly to your life. Each class we keep trying to form definitions but we still do not have a definition of Women, Homosexual sex, and desire. I'm really surprised how open everyone is in talking about what could be very sensitive material.
This class has also forced me to rethink the research I have done and the research I am doing. I spent an entire year researching motherhood and childcare without thinking about the perspectives and feminist theories related to it. My current research of "perceptions of art" is also directly related to the course altho I cant discuss it for another 2 or 3 weeks.
My most exciting news is that I am going to be presenting my research at a psych convention. It is super exciting because APS is a top Psychology society, so top psychologists and people I read about in textbooks will be there. My partner and I will be doing a poster presenation so it wont be a talk but psychologists from all over the US can come see my work. The only thing that really sucks is that its in San Fransico and its gonna be really expensive to go there. Muhlenberg's travel budget for students is practically depleted, but we were lucky enough to get $250 out of the $950. O well.

Well thats pretty much it for now.
Happy Valentine's Day to all my loves!

Birthday Weekend

I would like to thank everyone for the birthday wishes!! While most of you are on the other side of the Ocean celebrating I was in good ole Allentown ringing in the 21st. But dont you all fret, I was not alone. My new roommates were there to help bring in the big birthday! Sarah and Liz decided that they would get me dressed up to go out. Of course no complaints by me, after all I love to watch make-over/model shows so why not let someone else doll me up for a bit. We decided on what was a modern 1950's pin-up girl style (i had leopard print flats and a flower in my mess of a hairdo). Of course the night Feb 4th (the night before my b-day) started with drinking some Yellowtail, a staple beverage in 2235-101. And well most of you reading this know I'm a bit of lightweight, so starting off the night with 2 glasses of wine before heading to a bar was not a good idea for me. While getting ready we decided to BLAST a little Brit-Brit, hopefully the girlies upstairs and nextdoor enjoyed listening to our music as much as we enjoy listening to theirs. So eventually around 12:30 Liz and I made it over to The Tarvern on Libery (AKA Woody's) where Sarah was gonna meet up with us. I got carded which was exciting since they wished me a happy birthday and gave me a free 21st b-day T-shirt. They helped me pick out some beer, a raspberry wheat? Now I planned on only having that one beer since I already had the 2 glasses of wine, and had a small dinner 7 hours prior. However that did not occur. I somehow managed to start talking to some random townies who told me that I needed to try a different beer and bought me and the roomates a round and started talking to us. Then Stacy came in and saw me and decided she needed to buy me a beer as well. So somehow my "I'm only having one drink" turned into a few more. I saw some other people stumble in after their night at 100 days and hung out with them.
We eventually made it back to the house and of course I pulled out my camera and took some rather interesting photos that I dont think I want to put on the internet. Anyway I think I made it to bed sometime after 3 am. Alas I didnt fall asleep, I spent most of the night totally sick with a bucket by my side. I must say I do have some great new roommates cause Liz stayed in bed with me most of the night. My next morning was not much better, feeling exhausted and still sick to my stomach I decided not to skip class and went to the first 1/2 of my drawing class came back and went to sleep.
Eventually I felt much better and came home to celebrate my b-day with my family. When I got home I opened up a package from Eric, red roses and a stuffed sad-puppydog holding a heart. Thanks love! Then my ma, pa and bro went to this restaurant called Martini's and I got myself a Pineapple-Upside-Down-Martini. It was quite delish! After that we came home and ate a GIGANTIC birthday cupcake, chocolate cake with strawberry frosting-my fav! My parents got me 21 random gifts: A totebag, A shotglass, a mini-bicardi my mother bought in Peuto Rico 2 years ago, 21 quarters, 21 hershey kisses, a Pedi-Egg, nail polish, travel tissues, insence, Sybil (the book), a pack of gum, a scarf, pj's, 2 shirts, a lunch date, a movie date, chocolate bar, Hello Kitty Pez and The Dirty Dancing workout video!! It was quite exciting.
The rest of my weekend is pretty chill. I ran some errands including getting my new lisence! I also went to see He's Just not That into You, it was rather cute. And my cuz's took me out to Friday's get a drink. Overall I must say even tho my most of my nearest and dearest were not with me it turned out to be a good time.

Catch ya laters
